A destination-based bachata festival by the Adriatic Sea
Summer Bachata Festival (SBF) is an international destination dance festival held in the seaside town of Rovinj, Croatia, from 5–8 June 2026. The event brings together bachata dancers from around the world for four days of workshops, social dancing, beach and boat parties, concerts, and open-air events in one of the most picturesque locations on the Adriatic coast.
Created by the team behind the long-running Croatian Summer Salsa Festival, SBF represents a new chapter dedicated primarily to bachata, while maintaining the destination-based concept that has made Rovinj one of Europe’s most recognizable summer dance locations.
Rather than taking place in a single venue, the festival unfolds across the town, the coastline, and the sea itself. Workshops, social dancing, sunset events, and themed parties create a rhythm that blends dancing with the surrounding Mediterranean environment. The result is a compact but immersive dance vacation that connects learning, social interaction, and travel.
A bachata-focused dance vacation
At its core, Summer Bachata Festival is designed as a bachata-centered event, with the musical and educational program dedicated to bachata, complemented by a touch of salsa and related styles.
Across four days, dancers participate in a structured program that includes:
- high-level bachata workshops and bootcamps led by international instructors
- daily social dancing and evening parties
- beach and pool events by the Adriatic Sea
- iconic boat parties along the Istrian coastline
- live concerts and artist showcases
- curated themed events and late-night socials
This combination creates an environment where dancers can both deepen their skills and enjoy the social essence of bachata culture. SBF is designed for dancers of various levels - from improvers to experienced social dancers who want to combine learning with an active summer holiday.
Dancing across Rovinj
One of the defining characteristics of the festival is its multi-venue destination format. Rather than concentrating activities inside a single hotel ballroom, the program moves through several iconic locations across Rovinj.
Key festival spaces include:
- Adris Old Tobacco Factory, a historic industrial venue transformed into a large-scale dance hall
- Villas Rubin Resort, home to daytime beach and pool parties
- the Adriatic Sea itself, hosting sunset dance cruises and boat parties
- special themed events such as the Katarina Island Party on a private island
Through these locations, the festival integrates dance with the landscape of Rovinj - a colorful Mediterranean town known for its old town streets, seaside promenades, and vibrant summer atmosphere.
This spatial structure allows participants to experience both the destination and the dance community simultaneously.
The Bachata Family Reunion
The concept behind Summer Bachata Festival is often described as a “Bachata Family Reunion.”
For many dancers, Rovinj has already been a meeting point for years through the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival. With the launch of SBF, the focus shifts toward the global bachata community, creating a dedicated gathering for dancers who have grown with the genre over the past decade.
The festival therefore combines:
- international bachata artists and DJs
- a community-driven social dance culture
- the relaxed atmosphere of a seaside holiday
- and the shared experience of dancing in one of Europe’s most distinctive summer locations.
Part of an extended dance experience in Rovinj
Summer Bachata Festival is intentionally positioned at the beginning of June, immediately before the Croatian Summer Salsa Festival (CSSF), which takes place from 8–15 June 2026 in the same city.
Together, the two festivals create an 11-day dance experience in Rovinj, allowing participants to move directly from a bachata-focused program into a broader salsa and Latin dance festival.
This continuity turns Rovinj into a temporary global meeting point for dancers, musicians, instructors, and social dancers from dozens of countries.
Cultural and tourism significance
As part of the SeaSunSalsa event portfolio, Summer Bachata Festival contributes to the development of active cultural tourism in Croatia, combining dance education, social connection, and travel into a single experience.
Participants do not simply attend a festival. They engage with the destination itself — exploring the Adriatic coastline, the historic town of Rovinj, local gastronomy, and the surrounding Istrian archipelago while participating in the dance program.
With dancers traveling from across Europe and beyond, the festival strengthens Rovinj’s position as one of the most distinctive international destinations for summer dance events.
